Emergency Pet Services

Pet emergencies require immediate care. Because the situation is often a matter of life-or-death for your pet, our animal hospital always takes emergencies first. To ensure that your pet gets treatment as soon as possible, call our practice at (520) 544-7700 when you are on your way so that we can have a room and emergency vet ready to care for your animal.

As a fully operational animal hospital, our veterinary team has the equipment needed to provide high-level care for most pet emergencies while also helping our regular patients with routine care.

When to Seek Urgent Care for Your Pet

Several conditions in your pet will indicate an emergency. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) outlines several signs of pet emergencies. If you see any of the following symptoms in your cat or dog, phone us right away to let us know that your pet may need urgent care:

  • Bleeding that continues after five minutes or comes from your pet's rectum, mouth, nose, urine, or coughs
  • Eye injuries
  • Inability to eat or drink for a full day
  • Lack of ability to urinate or defecate
  • Heatstroke or heat stress
  • Unconsciousness or seizures
  • Eye injuries or fractures
  • Extreme pain whether you witnessed trauma to your pet or not
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Poison ingestion

Even if your pet does not show any of the above symptoms, use your gut instinct and phone us if you suspect that your pet has a severe problem. For instance, if your pet falls from a height, the trauma could have caused damage that you cannot see and your pet tries to hide. Phone us for advice on what to do next.

What to Expect During an Emergency Vet Visit

When you bring your pet to us for emergency pet services, your pet will have prompt care. Depending on the nature of the emergency, an emergency vet may be able to treat and release your pet at once or require a longer treatment or emergency surgery.

Because every pet emergency is different, each visit to our animal hospital for urgent care will also differ. If you have any questions about our emergency services, feel free to phone us.
